Cearvol Nano 2 (Starlight) OTC Hearing Aids

PROGRAMS: These hearing aids have 3 programs: 1 Mild; 2. Moderate; 3. Mod[erate]-Severe. They have distinct differences and simply put; each mode seemed louder but also with some other differences. I could only use them in the Mild mode as I have fairly mild hearing issues.

VOLUME: Volume levels: There are either 4 or 5 volume levels; 1, 2, 3, 4, Maximum Volume (I could not tell if that was a level or the voice prompt was just indicating I was already at level 4. More in the CONTROLS section below).

CONTROLS: I LOVE that the controls are on both sides of the charging / storage case. They are so much easier to use

than controls on very small hearing aids that are in your ear. The RIGHT ear + and �C volume, and Hearing Program / Lock buttons are on the right side of the case, and the left side of the case has the LEFT ear + and �C volume and Mode buttons. I found that with any of the buttons, sometimes 1 push worked but others (for the same button) required 2 pushes of the buttons. Another UPDATED feature is the ability to lock / unlock your preferred settings by pressing and holding the Program button (on the right side of the case) for 3 seconds.

PROMPTS: VOLUME �C 1 beep for volume 1, 2 beeps for 2, 3 beeps for 3, and 4 beeps for 4, then there is a Maximum Volume prompt afterwards (there is NO Minimum Volume prompt which is why I cannot tell if there are actually 4 or 5 volumes). PROGRAMS �C Program 1, Program 2, and Program 1. MODES �C Indoor Mode; 2. Restaurant Mode; 3. TV Mode (new); 4. Outdoor Mode; 5. Everywhere Mode (new).

CHARGING / CONTROLS / STORAGE CASE: To me it is right-sized at about 2 1/4 x 1 13/16 x 1 and only 45.32g/1.60oz. The size is good for carrying and makes it easy to use the control buttons (and I have rather large hands). The hearing aids are held securely in place magnetically for charging yet easy to remove when desired (some small aids are really tough to remove from their magnetic charging seat). And while charging, the case uses built-in UV C to sanitize the aids. Charging was relatively quick.

BATTERIES: The listing states the batteries last 17 hours and the case has 54 total hours so the aids can be recharged about another 2 times without the case needing to be attached to a power cord.

MORE PROS: Sound quality is very good; near lifelike. I experienced NO feedback except when inserting or wearing them. Once situated, they fit securely and are comfortable to wear (they are only 2.29g/0.08 each). NO app is needed! Noise suppression seemed to work well with static-like sound. Voices separated very well from background sounds to me watching TV and using the Restaurant Mode. The removal cord that is part of each hearing aid, makes removing them from the case and ears a breeze. Includes: aids; charging case; USB C power cord; 6 ear tips; cleaning tools; instructions.

NEUTRAL: Bluetooth for streaming and taking calls would be nice; NOT in listing / NO deduction. For me there was a bit of a learning curve to insert the hearing aids (but not that bad at all). These aids are neither invisible nor overly visible to others when worn: to me they are fine.

NITS: It would be nice to have an updated Instruction Manual (these aids have 5 Modes vs. 3 in the Manual and the Amazon listing).I usually prefer behind the ear receiver in canal hearing aids (with Bluetooth) but found myself wearing these more than expected. For those with moderate hearing loss, these are about the nicest, most feature filled, easy to use, and competent aids of the many I have tried and reviewed of this style in this price range. To me they are very well priced and hit the cost/ benefit sweet spot. I would certainly recommend them for consideration to family and friends. A very solid 5 stars.

I picked up these Nano OTC hearing aids for my dad that I take care of because he has moderate hearing loss. When I talk to him, I either have to raise my voice to almost a yell or repeat myself three or more times. Setup was very simple, making them a great option for seniors like my dad who want something easy to use without being shown repeatedly how to make adjustments.
